Driver-cab supervisory and indication systems

Description

We have developed solutions comprising an integrated software-and-hardware suite that provides centralised monitoring and control of a high-speed electric multiple unit (EMU) without an assistant driver.

Goals and objectives

Timely and convenient access to train condition information and the ability for the locomotive crew to monitor and control the EMU

Characteristics

This is a set of technical means designed to enable direct interaction between the driver and EMU equipment. It allows the driver to control and supervise the operation of the train's technical systems. The convenience, reliability, and functionality of driver information systems largely determine the ease and safety of train operation.

Instead of numerous physical control devices (buttons, switches, setpoints) and displays (indicators, analogue instruments), multifunctional software-and-hardware devices are used. Information display devices include a screen capable of showing virtual buttons, graphs, analogue and digital indicators, text information, and various schematics.

Applied technologies

The display device screens are based on liquid-crystal matrices and can output various graphical and text information, photographic-quality images, and video.

Connection to data networks is implemented using two types of networks built on different technologies and principles: CAN;

Ethernet.

Software for information display devices is developed using graphical development environments — specialised software toolsets. These environments include the appropriate libraries and provide a convenient drag-and-drop interface, reducing development time and allowing the interface under development to be visualised without running program code.

Software development uses:

  • programming languages: C, C++, Python;
  • development tools: Visual Studio, Code::Blocks, Qt Designer, Qt Creator;
  • source code management tools: SVN, Git;
  • requirements management tools: T-FLEX RM.
